Split This Rock @ Studio Gallery for the 9/11 Arts Project

9/8/11

Sunday September 11, 4 - 6 pm: Studio Gallery and Split This Rock collaborate for a special September 11th Reception with poetry and music.

Artists everywhere have been moved to create work in response to the events of 9/11, both immediately afterwards and over the past 10 years. By bringing together past and present work, we hope to illuminate ways in which art can help us to process catastrophe and its aftermath. The participating artists have been asked to reflect on their work in this regard, and their observations and insights will be included in the exhibition. For more happenings in this massive citywide collaboration, visit the 9/11 Arts Project calendar of events.

Interview with The Frederick News-Post

8/4/11

Thanks to Lauren LaRocca for this article on my Delaplaine installation, The Distance Between, which ends August 21. There's a First Saturday reception on the 6th from 3-5pm, plus it's the big dog days event downtown. A lot of fun!

Tomorrow from 6-8pm is the First Friday reception for the all members show Unseen at Studio Gallery in Dupont Circle. My new painting, Evidence of an Unstoppable Heart, (below) is on view.

Stop by. Pet a dog. Have some wine. See lots of art.

Acceptance: UMUC's Mind, Body and Spirit

A Beautiful Destruction was selected for the University of Maryland University College's juried exhibition of works on paper by regional women artists. Mind, Body and Spirit will celebrate the diverse perspectives of regional women artists as they share their unique interpretations of self-identity.

The exhibition will be co-curated by Harriet McNamee, art historian and former curator of education for the National Museum of Women in the Arts and by Bobby Donovan, painter and printmaker and assistant director of the UMUC Arts program. A small catalog will accompany the exhibition.

First Friday... Wow!

12/5/09

So the Studio Gallery All Members Show was called "Call and Response" and man did the community respond by coming out to this event! I'm guessing at least 200 dropped by, and it was great for me as a new artist to see work by all the other members.

If you came, thanks for stopping by! If you didn't, there's still plenty of time to see a wide variety of work by all members:

The world calls to us, and as artists, we respond. We have ways of creating, and each chooses the "way" according to our own sensitivities. As an exercise in understanding, this group show by Studio Gallery artists has been arranged according to the way that we work and respond to the world.

The categories are: gesture, line, figure/ground relationships, the grid, organic and big forms. We invite you to view the variety and playfulness of 42 artists in this metropolitan area!

1 Happy Woman

9/19/09

Stephen got a piece into the above all-male show juried by a panel of 12 women. His new work is looking great, and I'm really happy for him. The opening is September 26 at the Soundry from 8 to 11 PM.

At the opening, a video of the panel making their decisions will be featured. Man, I can't imagine 12 jurors coming to a final decision in the short turn-around time they gave themselves, but they did it. Stephen will be in Phoenix unfortunately, but Heather and I will go.

I'm also happy because I've been invited to become a part of the Studio Gallery. The jurying-in was Wednesday, and the Director called Thursday to let me know. A big thank you to Artomatic for giving artists the kind of exposure that can make things like this happen!
